About NewU Smile - Teeth Whitening Services

Our teeth whitening services are performed by a certified teeth whitening technician.

What Is Cosmetic Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure performed by a trained technician in which a hydrogen peroxide gel is applied to the tooth surface. This gel helps lighten and remove stains and discoloration from the tooth.

How Does Teeth Whitening Work?

The combination of the LED light and whitening gel opens the tooth pores, penetrating the outer tooth surface. The oxygen molécules from the gel react with the discoloured molecules in your teeth breaking the bond allowing the tooth to lighten.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How long does the teeth whitening last?
Teeth whitening is not permanent. Everyone's teeth are different and stain at different rates. On average the whitening results last 6-8 months for non-smokers & 4-6 Months if the client is a smoker. Oral hygiene and habits will affect longevity.
  2. How often can I do the treatment?
If desired results are reached, you can do another treatment 4-6 months later. If two sessions are needed, they can be done 1-3 weeks apart without any harm, and then wait 4-6 months for another full session. In between touch ups (30 minutes) can be done if needed 2-4 months after.
  3. How many sessions will I need?
Usually one full session is enough. If the patient has heavy staining or "stubborn" teeth, another session may be required. Results however are immediate.
  4. Will my teeth be sensitive after?
Sensitivity is possible but rare. We do everything possible to avoid sensitivity, we apply a blue gel to protect the gums. We will monitor it throughout the treatment. We suggest using a sensitive tooth paste 2 weeks before. Avoid anything cold to drink right after the treatment. Apply vitamin E swap.
  5. I have fillings/crowns/veneers on my front teeth, will these whiten?
The whitening process itself will not change the colour of the tooth as it's a porcelain/composite material. However, over time stain does build up on these materials and can be lightened with the whitening treatment. Colour may might be different slightly than the adjacent teeth but we will monitor throughout and show you along the way.
  6. I have a root canal on my front tooth will this change colours?
Yes and no, the tooth is dead with no nerve supply so the tooth colour and will not change like the rest of the teeth. Some stains will be removed but the tooth will still be a slightly different shade (usually whitish/grey).
  7. Does insurance cover this treatment?
Typically, insurance companies do not cover the whitening treatment as it is considered a cosmetic procedure.
  8. How many shades will my teeth lighten?
Results will vary patient to patient. On average 4-12 shades.
  9. Will this treatment harm my teeth?
The gel is Health Canada approved and safe for the enamel, When performed by a professional, it should not cause any damage. If done in moderation there is no harm. Only when done excessively, whitening softening the enamel.
  10. Who is not eligible for teeth whitening?
    • Under 18 years old
    • Pregnant and breast feeding
    • Active chemotherapy treatment (must be done 6 months)
    • Have a history of epilepsy
